A question that I am asked daily is “Am I a candidate to have my teeth bleached?”  A thorough examination of all teeth, roots and gums should be completed by your dentist prior to bleaching.  Patients with healthy unrestored teeth are the best candidates.  Existing crowns and bonded fillings will not bleach in the process.  Surface stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine and smoking will be improved by bleaching.  Teeth that are a dark shade due to internal causes such as tetracycline or fluorosis will not give as good results.  Patients with sensitive, worn teeth or periodontal disease are not good candidates either. If you are a candidate, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth in order to fabricate custom bleaching trays.  The two most popular bleaching techniques are at home custom bleaching or in-office light or laser bleaching accompanied by home custom bleaching.  The home bleaching requires patients to wear the custom trays for one hour a day for two weeks.  The in-office bleach gives a brighter smile in about one hour.

Call our office today, and find out if  you are a candidate to brighten your smile.
