Tea Party Grows Into Foundation Funds Fight Ovarian Cancer

victorianwomanThe 3rd annual Teal Tea will be held May 3, at the Trenton Marriott, Lafayette Yard. Tickets are $50 per person and proceeds go to help find a cure and raise awareness of ovarian cancer. The Tea includes individual competitions for the most beautifully decorated tea table, a best hat parade, and music by Thursday Night Jazz and members of the Hun School Chamber Orchestra. To purchase tickets, contact Amy Cellini, acellini@ets.org or Jean Shipos, 215-295-4315.

The Teal Tea Foundation is also looking for volunteer table captains interested in decorating a tea table.  Anyone interested in decorating a table for the fund-raiser, should contact Shipos or visit www.tealtea.com for more information.

“A simple tea party held the first Sunday every May to raise funds for ovarian cancer awareness for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) has blossomed into a full-fledged 501(c) (3) foundation – The Teal Tea Foundation.,” says Shipos, Teal Tea Foundation President.

After holding Teal Tea parties for two years with the support of Educational Testing Service (ETS), Princeton, NJ, they have formed an Executive Committee and Advisory Board to oversee their work as a foundation. Support for the organization includes new advisory board members: The Honorable John Bencivengo, Mayor of Hamilton Township;

Anne Gale, Retired Vice President and Corporate Secretary, Educational Testing Service; Keith McWhirk, Esquire, Mandracchia & McWhirk, LLC; The Honorable Douglas Palmer, Mayor of Trenton; Dr. Lorna Rodriguez, Chief of Oncology/Gynecology, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey; and Nancy Sherlock, President Morrisville Borough Council.

“By moving into a recognized Foundation, we can continue to support numerous efforts to promote awareness of and the fight against, ovarian cancer,” Shipos says.” As always, our primary goal with holding the Teal Tea is to recognize those who are currently fighting this insidious disease and to remember those who have lost the battle.”
