A new recommendation stating that women between the ages of 40 and 49 should not have mammograms every year has generated a great deal of controversy lately. The US Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF), an advisory group to the federal government, concluded in November 2009 that mammograms create a lot of anxiety and may lead to unnecessary medical intervention.
