Does Your Relationship Control Your Emotions and Your Behavior Even Though it Negatively Affects Your Mental and Physical Health? Part I

Rae Federico, MSW, LCSW

Rae Federico, MSW, LCSW

If you are in a unhealthy relationship, and you are obsessed with your partner, consider that the basis of your obsession is not love, but fear. That fear is about being alone, fear of being unlovable and unworthy, and the fear of being ignored or abandoned. You may feel incomplete and want someone to complete you.  Your hopes and dreams focus around finding that person who will take care of your fears. If you have not been accustomed to a loving nurturing personal relationship, you are willing to wait and hope and try harder to please. Quakerbridge Radiology understands the anxiety a patient will experience when undergoing a screening or diagnostic mammogram. Now, because of the enhancement of our radiology department and our use of state-of-the-art equipment, we can provide patients with immediate and effective services. Is Real Prevention Possible?

Dr. Kate Thomsen and Silky

Dr. Kate Thomsen and Silky

Women don’t have to be told that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women – it seems we all know at least one friend or family member who has been affected.  This is the effect of a cancer that is rampantly common, and since the biggest risk factor is age, we continue to see more breast cancer as our friends and family get older.  Matter of fact, by the time a woman is 70 years old, her chances of having breast cancer are 1 in 8. Finally Skin Tightening That Works!

Dr. Sharon Gertzman

Dr. Sharon Gertzman

For many years there have been various methods of skin tightening available that have shown little to no results. Common brand names are Thermage, Affirm, and Titan. While the technology has always intrigued me, the process is known to be quite painful, expensive and result in little to no visible improvement in as much as 70% of the patients treated. I have always thought that this was a procedure that, once perfected, would be phenomenal. Finally, a company has perfected it! Continue reading Finally Skin Tightening That Works!

Priya Desai, MD, MBA

Priya Desai, MD, MBA

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world and the second leading cause of blindness in the United States.  It is a disease of the optic nerve, the structure that connects the eye to the brain.  Damage to the optic nerve causes blind spots in the vision that usually go unnoticed until the optic nerve is significantly damaged.  Blindness results when the entire nerve is destroyed. Countless Americans endure debilitating pain every day.

“Pain is a symptom,” says Dorota M. Gribbin, M.D., Assistant Clinical Professor at Columbia University – New York Presbyterian Hospital and Medical Director of Comprehensive Pain and Rehabilitation Center.  “In order to manage pain effectively, it is essential to pinpoint its cause.”  Named one of the best doctors in the New York Metro Area-1999 by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., the pain management specialist uses a minimally invasive approach to outsmart tough pain.  Her first step is to obtain a global understanding of the patient, including specific complaints and past medical and social history.  Next come diagnostic studies such as blood tests, x-rays, MRI and electrodiagnostic studies (EMG/NCV). Do You Know the Symptoms and Risk Factors of Ovarian Cancer?

Layout 11.  What is the general outlook for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer?

In women age 35-74, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths. An estimated one woman in 58 will develop ovarian cancer during her lifetime. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2008, there will be 21,650 new cases of ovarian cancer and 15,520 women will die from ovarian cancer.  Because each woman diagnosed with ovarian cancer has a different profile, it is impossible to give a general prognosis. If diagnosed and treated early, when the cancer is confined to the ovary, the 5-year survival rate is over 90%. Unfortunately, due to ovarian cancer’s non-specific symptoms and lack of early detection tests, only 19% of all cases are found at this early stage. If caught in stage III or higher, the survival rate can be as low as 29%.  (Source: American Cancer Society) Continue reading Do You Know the Symptoms and Risk Factors of Ovarian Cancer?

Look Ahead To Avoid Report Card Surprises

Huntington Learning Center

Even if you were a good student, chances are you have at least one memory of riding home on a school bus and dreading the moment when you’d have to hand your report card over to your parents. What probably made it worse was that you saw it coming. After several low test scores, you were pretty certain that your grade for the quarter would be a C, D or worse.
